Below is a glossary of commonly used terms and coverages in film and television insurance:

Extended Pre-Production Coverage

Covers extra expenses incurred due to the postponement, interruption, or cancellation of a production during pre-production. This includes incidents such as accident, illness, death, or kidnapping of a declared artist(s), director, or animal prior to the start of principal photography.

Cast Insurance

Provides coverage for extra expense costs incurred by the production company due to postponement, interruption, or cancellation of the production resulting from an accident, illness, or death of a declared artist(s), director, any declared person as a cast member, or an animal during the filming of principal photography.

Negative Film and Videotape Insurance

Protects against direct physical loss, damage, or destruction of production materials such as raw film or tape stock, exposed film (developed or undeveloped), videotape, matrices, lavenders, interpositives, positives, working prints, cuffing copies, fine grain prints, color transparencies, cells, artwork and drawing, software and related material used to generate computer images, and soundtracks and tapes used in connection with a declared production.

Faulty Stock, Camera, and Processing Coverage

This provides coverage for loss, damage, or destruction of raw film or tape stock, exposed film (developed or undeveloped), recorded videotape, soundtrack, and tapes caused by or resulting from fogging or the use of faulty materials (including cameras and videotape recorders), faulty sound equipment, faulty development, faulty editing or faulty processing, and accidental erasure of videotape recordings.

Props, Sets, and Wardrobe Coverage (PSW)

Protects against direct physical loss, damage, or destruction of production materials such as raw film or tape stock, exposed film (developed or undeveloped), videotape, matrices, lavenders, interpositives, positives, working prints, cuffing copies, fine grain prints, color transparencies, cells, artwork and drawing, software and related material used to generate computer images, and soundtracks and tapes used in connection with a declared production.

Miscellaneous Equipment Coverage

Provides all-risk coverage for owned or rented production equipment, including camera, camera equipment, sound and lighting equipment, post-production and editing equipment, portable electrical equipment and generators, mechanical effects equipment, grip equipment, mobile dressing rooms, honey wagon trailer units, and similar miscellaneous equipment against all risks of direct physical loss, damage or destruction occurring during a declared production including loss of use to rental companies.

Extra Expense Coverage

This coverage reimburses the production company for additional costs needed to complete principal photography due to loss, damage, or destruction of contracted property or facilities during a declared production.

Third-Party Property Damage (TPPD)

This covers loss from damage or destruction of property of others (including loss of use of the property) while the property is in the care, custody, or control of the production company and is used in a declared production.

Post-Production Cast Insurance

It covers extra expenses incurred by the production company due to an accident, illness, or death of a declared person designated for this coverage prior to the completion of post-production of a declared production.

Office Contents

This provides coverage on business personal property usual to office occupancy, including furniture, fixtures, equipment, and supplies, against all risks of direct physical loss, damage, or destruction while the property is on the scheduled premises or at other locations used in a declared production and while in transit, including loss of use of such property.

Commercial Vehicle Physical Damage (CVPD)

This provides coverage for non-owned, hired, loaned, or donated motor vehicles against all risks of direct physical loss, damage, or destruction while vehicles are being used in a declared production, including loss of use of such property.

Money and Security Coverage

Insures against the loss of money or securities used during production while on set, in filming locations, or within company premises.
